You get over close relationship in time. You don't say how long you have been separated, but it may not have been long enough.

Realize that you will always have some feelings, but it is important to not hold hope for the relationship, if there is none. That saps your energy that can be used to move on to other healthy relationships.

It shouldn't take a year to get over a relationship of a year long, but it might take more than a month. If it takes more than three months, you need to take conscious steps to get over the situation. Replace the relationship with another healthy relationship or healthy behavior such as exercise, education, community service, etc.
