i think today's trading deadline was better than last year, but it was disappointing for one reason: soriono staying...now, im an a's fan, so im not being a homer, but the washington nationals should have moved alfonso soriono to get at least something instead of nothing when he leaves at the end of the year..then again, its better that teams backed away from him because he would have been a bad team player and would have been the guy that says, "o im only here till the end of the year" kind of thing....
bobby abreu going to new york was stupid...steinbrunner is putting a bat that the yankees already have, and he's worry about the now rather than the future...they have matsui, damon, and sheffield in the outfield..now, i know they are making a run, but the playoffs are all about pitching, and getting cory lidle out of the trading deadline? cory lidle is a 4 or a 5 and his era isnt the best in the nl east, and if it sucks in the nl east, how will he survive in the al east, not to mention, he was with the a's, and couldnt survive the al west! in my mind, the yankees shouldnt have gone out and gotten another bat when matsui is coming back like now i think, and sheffield in ny..itll piss off the ppl with big bucks..u can tell steinbrunner doesnt care bout the future cause he's giving away the future...
the rangers had a great trading deadline all because they got carlos lee..they improved their bullpen, but the addition of carlos lee puts him (who has been producing this year) in a park where his stats will boost, and in the middle of a lineup with young, blalock, and texiera...thats a power lineup there...watch out for the rangers, im scared...
the dodgers got julio lugo and greg maddux..iono how maddux is gonna get the job done..hes gone, which is y the dodgers are gonna have to find another pitcher in the offseason, say barry zito..if they can get barry zito during the offseason, u are looking at a dangerous rotation there in LA in the future..
im a little frustrated the dodgers didnt trade for soriono..they would have only had to give up chad billingsly and matt kemp, i know matt kemp is a good guy for the future, but come on...matt kemp for soriono...although, the accusition of julio lugo was a good rebound from that..take out cesar izturis because he wouldnt have been able to fit with furcal now with the dodgers..they had to get him out someway..put lugo at 2nd when kent is down, and there u go..a dodger team looking to make a run...
i was surprised that the astros didnt go for tejada...they need a freakin bat! now, im not just talking for roger clemens sake, cause he will be gone in a matter of time..im talking just adding a bat to that team...berkman cant do it all...put a slugging shortstop in there, and u got offense..its that simple..u cant win in that division with no offense...by not getting tejada, they dont have much of a future...i dont see the astros going anywhere with cincinnati doing good..
probably the best, tho, was sean casey going to the tigers..the tigers are going to make the playoffs, we all know that...they got players on all positions that are filing their role...getting sean casey in there gives u a quality bat and team member...he will want to go in there and win the world series, and nothing else..he wont bring the team down..he will keep them going...great trade for the tigers...getting in the trading mix just made them better..
i think if the braves had given andruw jones to the red sox, the red sox would run away with the division, but now, i think the red sox are going to be in a grudge match with the yankees for the next 2 months...that is going to be interesting..
theres my opinion

There was a lot of good trades. I think the trades are going to impact the teams in a positive way evenly. I like the cubs getting izturis to fill in for walker who just got traded. and a banged up dodgers pitching staff needed a little boost. Maybe a veteran like maddux is what they need. The rangers got another hitter in Lee like they needed anymore, pitching is their biggest hangup.

I honestly expected Soriano to go somewhere; it surprised me that he didn't. The Rangers getting Carlos Lee was good, but what they really needed was to upgrade their pitching.
And I think it's a shame what the Cubs did to Greg Maddux. Here is a future Hall-of-Famer and a guy Chicago LOVES. If the Cubs had gotten prospects they could develop for the future, that would have been one thing. But to take a nobody like Cezar Izturis for Maddux???? Give me a break!!!!!!!!

I am going with the Manny alternate, and it did not cross via... Manny in Miami might have sucked. Trading a 24 12 months historic Jeremy Hermida might have screwed the Marlins, and I used to be so relieved it didnt cross down

im a yankee fan so im gunna talk about the abreu trade. im very dissapointed in this trade! they have enough outfielders and needed starting pitching. another bat i dont think will help much because now one of the younger guys will have to get off the field. and when sheffield and matsui come back, they will have 9 superstars trying to play 8 positions (excluding pitcher)

It did not surprise me that the Reds did more trading. I am still not sure if this will help the pitching, but lets hope. Maddux going to the Dodgers did not surprise me. It was talked about so much.
