I'm trying to transfer funds from a checking account at capital one to a checking account at viewpoint bank. is it possible to do online?

yeah, just talk to the bank you want to transfer funds to and set it up with your current bank.

The only way to transfer funds directly from one bank to another is to wire the money. You will have to go to the bank in person and there will most likely be a fee to do it.

The easiest way to do that would be with Pay Pal. Most US banks don't make it easy to transfer funds directly online. Pay Pal works very nicely, though it usually takes a couple of days to clear.

its only possible if either bank offers it on thier website... most bigger banks do... some smaller banks do not .. if thats the case then you have to do a wire transfer for which you will have to pay a fee...
customer service should be able to help you with that...
