buy a 4 or 6 cylinder but one that gets great mileage and has a sturdy piece of metal between the doors of the front and back seat (for strength and safety in case your car is ever in a roll). Make sure the seatbelt is attached to the seat and not to the door. Although automatic windows are great, roll downs are better. Make sure the car gets great gas mileage. If you're going to be traveling bridges in areas where there will be strong winds you'll want to choose a larger, heavier car.

An economical vehicle would be a small Honda or Toyota, They don't use a lot of gas and have a good reputation for reliability and for holding their value.
