According to the local meteorologists, it has something to do with the drought. (Anyone who wants to set me straight on that, please do). Driving on 1604 in San Antonio, they are EVERYWHERE! I had to keep turning on my windshield wipers and washing smashed butterfly bodies off the windshield. Everywhere I go, they are fluttering about in great flocks...or herds...or swarms...or whatever you call a large group of butterflies. Really, it's kind of neat to see them. I'm surprised the birds aren't fatter.
Anyway...just curious. I was wondering if the rest of Texas or other parts of the U.S. were experiencing this butterfly phenomenon.

I wonder if the multimillions of gnats and beetles are the result of the same type of weather pattern...drought-deluge...

elizabreed2001: Loop 1604 is a big loop around the city. You can get exit to Bitters from 1604, but I'm not familiar with Hidden Forest (there're a lot of neighborhoods in S.A. named after timber sources. ;-)
These butterflies are small and moth-like, but orange and have the cutest little snouts!

Well I live in Abilene Texas and we have them everywhere. This isn't the usual migration of monarchs we usually see come through on their way to cooler or warmer climates. they are smaller. So yes we have them here too. Abilene is 3 hours or about 150 miles due west of Dallas. *this is the beginning of my edit.* they are Libytheana bachmanii larvata — snout butterflies along with Kricogonia lysides, or yellow sulfurs, they are taking advantage of the drought-and-deluge cycle to breed. in the millions.

Man I'm glad I stumbled on this question ! ! ! Just 'cause I just moved from San Antonio . . and it's kind of cool to hear someone talk of it . . and KNOW what highway they are talking about. I am now in NM. And grew up in CO. So this Q & A feels like homecoming . . You with the SA . .and the 2nd or 3rd A with the Southern CO . . I am from Southern CO ! ! !
I was in S.A TX for 2 1/2 years . . and I did not see this. I did see some really big heavy bird-like almost, Monarchs . . .but not the swarms. I know some people there though who were really into butterflies in their decor . . and I bet this inspired it . . it was an acquaintance who lived near 1604 . . she and her little 4 yr. old daughter were all into "Butterflies" . . and I saw a few real big ones near their house frequently . . usually one at a time . .I think two at a time too .
Is 1604 near Bitters and Hidden Forest neighborhood?

Here in southern Colorado we have an annual miller moth migration. Some years there are tons of them, some years just a few. The first year we lived here we had so many they shorted out my floor lamp and started a small fire. They are born in the fields and then fly to the mountains during the first few weeks of June.
A group of butterflies is known as a swarm, rabble, or a flutter.

I think I could handle butterflies better than the double-bazillions of gnats here in W. North Carolina. And beetles by the triple-bazillions, eating up all my flower plants flower and all.

i'm sorry to hearken to that, yet in understanding "christian" can recommend countless issues as no longer all communities or denominations who declare to be christians, aren't any further genuine christians....Jesus stated there'll be wolves in sheeps clothing. perchance you've been putting out with the wolves, wondering they were sheep, and listening to them. I have had a rather diverse adventure, His be conscious says "search for and ye shall discover"....I sought and that i got here upon the God of the Bible to be actual and genuine. you do not choose to cajole your self---sorry it really is not any longer HIS plan. His plan is with suggestions from faith, and He says " educate me now saith the Lord"---evidence of God, merely comes from God, see also Hebrews 11:a million & 6.
