The Chevy Cavalier has the highest depreciation of all vehicles on the road today based on an article by Consumer Reports.
This is a distributorless system, I believe on the 1989 and later models, where the timing is set by a computer based on electronic senors.
If you lose one of the drive belts...don't be too concerned because your car just won't move anymore. :)
You should look at error codes if you want to start swaping out sensors. This would be highly benificial in bringing your gas mileage up and will pay for itself in the long run. AutoZone, Chief's, Kragen, what have you, will do this for free.

yeah, it likely has a belt, timing chains are pretty rare now. If it's a 2003, and it doesn't have a tremendious amount of miles on it it's unlikely that your timing belt is going to go out any time soon. I have a 1990 Subaru Legacy with almost 200,000 miles on it and it's on it's original timing belt.

Listen to Skip, the 2.2 liter engine has a timing chain not a belt. The chain should outlast the vehicle, if you change your oil correctly. If by some slim chance it does break, you can bend valves and cause head and piston damage.

A timing belt should be the least of your worries.
Don't worry about it...they don't break very often.
Other things will need replacing as time goes on
besides the timing belt.

All engines in automobiles have timing belts, if it does break, the engine will not run. It won't do any damage so don't worry.

yours could be a timing belt or timing chain..check your owners manual..
and yes if it breaks you'll have major problems.
usually they get replaced at 90K for timing belts and 100+ for the timing chain...

it does, and you have more than a 50% chance it will fry your engine if it breaks.
You should have it changed at your local mechanic between 60,000 and 75,000 miles. Dealers will rip you off on labor for that part.
