I was born and raised in Zilina, but I haven’t lived there for decades. Nice town. I was fun growing up there with all the nature and mountains nearby. I think a lot has changed lately but it’s definitely worth visiting. It’s much more industrialized now but the historical quarter is still beautiful and the nature is just a short drive away.

Been to Bratislava twice. Less than 1 hour east of Vienna.

Beautiful city and friendly people. The old town is very accessible and walkable with nice shops & restaurants. The Bratislava castle on a NW hill overlooking downtown has been nicely restored and contains a museum. An interesting side trip is the site of Devin castle, on the Danube River, about 6 km northwest of downtown. I think it dates to the Roman empire.

A lot of foreign investment capital is going into Slovakia due to its lower cost of labor. VW has a large plant in Bratislava.

I've also been in Bratislava, but I didn't like it at all. Before Bratislava, I had been in Prague, so I suppose I was under impression of Prague, because i had a great time. Bratislava is not very large city. Architecture of Bratislava is O.K. there are many beautifull bridges, castles and cathedrals, but that's all. The main street of Bratislava is very interesting because of some sculptures and the highest fountain in Slovakia... Bratislava is a nice city, but nothing special. At least to me...
