something about not have all 24 chromosomes. i learned that in health class. just tell your son that "mentaly disabled" kids are like that because they don't have all their chromosomes. if he asks why, go back to health class

Well down syndrome for one (since it's most common), is having 3 copies of chromosome number 21. Other ones can be caused multiple copies, a lack of copies. Or just a genetic disorder like dwarfism.

it's usually a recessive gene that could be carried throughout the family..but sometimes there could be like too many chromosomes or there's a missing pair of chromosomes..nothing that you can really control.
