I live in a rental unit without a screen door but I love to keep my front door open when the weather is nice. The only problem is is that shortly after I open my door I get a small swarm of bugs flying around the middle of the room. How can I keep them from cooming into my home if I want to keep my front door open?

Put those sticky fly strips by the front door to catch the flies as they fly in, so you don't have to deal with them later.

Go to Home Depot. Buy some screen material and make a curtain for your front door. Hang the curtain so that there are no gaps around the door.
You can use a tension rod so it is easily removable or hang it just inside the door on a regular rod so it covers the edges and top of the door inside.

If you're not allowed to put up a screen door where you live, Bug Off is the solution! It was originally invented for apartments and condos, where standard framed screen doors, are often not permitted.

I've heard if you hang a small brown paper bag, stuffed with tissue or something like that, tie a string around the top and hang this from your doorknob, the flies with think it's a wasp's nest and they will not come near it.

restauraunts and grocery stores use strong fans immediately in front of the doors to deter flies. Not sure how you would rig one up, but it seems to work for them...
(It's called a Venus Flytrap).

Hang clear baggies filled with water, about four around your door. Flies have refractive eyes and they will think they see an enemy and they will leave.

where do you live that you can keep your door open??? Its 100 plus here in Oklahoma...my door is closed...flys cant even fly in this heat....

ooooooo..... on HGTV, they showed this really cool plant that eats flies. I forgot what it's called, but the flies really do get "eaten".
