Well, this problem just happened to my desktop as well. My power supply went bad. I was told when your computer goes into the power saver mode, it can sometimes mess with your hard drive and other parts of your computer. I put another powersupply into my computer and it worked fine. Back to normal. Also if your computer has a D-Bracket on it. The four lights on the back of your computer will actually light up between green and red. That giving you the code for the problem.

That's strange. Try booting into safe mode and see if you can change your power setting in Control Panel. I believe it's F7 or F8 at the windows screen. Safe mode should bypass that.
