What exactly do you want to know?

First of all, it is referenced on this site as a 1950's song:
http://www.nanuq.com/carol/lyrics/the_top_365_songs_of_the_century.html
but I have also seen references to the 1930's.

Do you want lyrics?

"Mr. Sandman"

Mr. Sandman, bring me a dream
Make him the cutest that I've ever seen
Give him two lips like roses and clover
Then tell him that his lonesome nights are over

Sandman, I'm so alone
Don't have nobody to call my own
Please turn on your magic beams
Mr. Sandman, bring me a dream

Mr. Sandman, bring me a dream
Make him the cutest that I've ever seen
Give him the word that I'm not a rover
Then tell him that his lonesome nights are over

Sandman, I'm so alone
Don't have nobody to call my own
Please turn on your magic beams
Mr. Sandman, bring me a dream

Enter Sandman
Uh, yeah
Bring me a nightmare
Give him a pair of eyes with a frightening gleam
Give him a beer ad empty beer cans
And long wavy hair like Pat the Wolfman

Mr. Sandman, someone to dread
Someone who's creepy and after my head
So please turn on your magic beams
Mr. Sandman bring us
Please, please, please Mr. Sandman
Bring us a dream

The Chordettes recorded Mr. Sandman in 1954. It was a Pat Ballard song. The Chordettes were college girls that got together as a barbershop quartet in Sheboygan, Wisconsin; They became famous when they appeared on Arthur Godfrey Talent Scouts show. Mr. Sandman was recorded on an independent label, Cadence, owned by Archie Bleyer. Mr. Sandman was later sung by Emmylou Harris.

whats up, don't be dissing on BSB, I had good memories related to them : P this is troublesome to tell, i'm rather optimistic all those hair steel bands did no longer anticipate their hair dos to be embarrassing now. properly, besides, i think of the recent wave of steel (no longer nu steel) would have extra interest. i've got been noticing extra interest in the direction of steel bands and properly with the aid of fact the growing to be indie scene. If i'm able to stipulate the 00's musically, i think of the two standouts would be steel and indie. properly, indie isn't precisely a style yet you get what I propose.... I doubt the mainstream bands in the present day gets plenty recognizing interior the destiny, different than for Radiohead, Muse, gadget, White Stripes etc. yet definitely, until FOB fairly turn it around and do study to play their units and do something unique, I doubt they are going to be extra desirable than something however the subsequent N'Sync. Pop has a clean face i think. BTW good Morning :0 )

great song
The Chordettes originally sang it, but it has been remade a number of times, the trio of Dolly Parton, Emily Lou Harris and Linda Ronstadt also did it

Mr. Sandman, bring me a dream (bung, bung, bung, bung)
Make him the cutest that I've ever seen (bung, bung, bung, bung)
Give him two lips like roses and clover (bung, bung, bung, bung)
Then tell him that his lonesome nights are over.
Sandman, I'm so alone
Don't have nobody to call my own
Please turn on your magic beam
Mr. Sandman, bring me a dream.

(scat "bung, bung, bung, bung".)

Mr. Sandman, bring me a dream
Make him the cutest that I've ever seen
Give him the word that I'm not a rover
Then tell him that his lonesome nights are over.
Sandman, I'm so alone
Don't have nobody to call my own
Please turn on your magic beam
Mr. Sandman, bring me a dream.

(scat "bung, bung, bung, bung")

Mr. Sandman (male voice: "Yesss?") bring us a dream
Give him a pair of eyes with a "come-hither" gleam
Give him a lonely heart like Pagliacci
And lots of wavy hair like Liberace
Mr Sandman, someone to hold (someone to hold)
Would be so peachy before we're too old
So please turn on your magic beam
Mr Sandman, bring us, please, please, please
Mr Sandman, bring us a dream.
