Yes you can use Clorox in the tank. You will also want to install a water softener because you have a high level of iron in your water....

Muriatic acid is your best bet bar none..you'll spend alot less time messing with it than anything else. just be careful...if your a cautious type stick with using it with water,,however as a plumber I usually suck all the water out and dump about 1/2 gallon into a dry toilet....spread around over the affected area i.e rust stains and walk away for about 10 min( open a window) ...just don't go slinging the toilet brush around...and rinse it after your done..repeat as nescesary. this is also very good for disolving any buildup in the trap of the toilet as well...cheers

If Limeaway or CLR (Calcium/Line/Rust remover) don't do the trick, try muriatic acid. Keep the concentration light to begin with and add small amounts. Wear eye protection andheavy rubber gloves as muriatic acid will burn your skin. The fumes are noxious, so wear a mask and ventilate well.

Remember the old phrase "do as you oughtta, add acid to water."

CLR works good too... Calcium, Lime, Rust remover...

You really need to fix the leaking water too.... it is easy... and not very expensive to buy the replacement parts at WalMart or your local stores.

I always bleach it and scrub the sides with the toilet brush. I found that those toleit bowl cleaners that you add to the tank help to keep it clean too.

clorox or Limeaway, if you have a septic tank it will kill the beneficial bacteria, so lime away is the better bet.

go to wal-mart, look for a scrubing stone, its in a white and blue box , it works great, all you have to do is scrub it, it will sound like your tearing up your toliet, but it doesnt hurt it at all, no matter how long your toliet has the ring around it . its great, it costs about 2.50 maybe less.
