I don't know but I get pissed off when people publicly criticize and harrass smokers but don't say anything to obese people. Obesity has replaced smoking as the number one preventable cause of death and causes more health risks than smoking as well as more garbage.

It depends on the context and content of the discussion. I recently read and blogged an article about fat being the new race and the author went on about how disgusted she was to see fat people eating in public and how everyone fat should be taxed. That is not constructive and solves nothing. To talk about why so many people in the US are obese and how the problem can be solved on a large scale level is a different story. Or even talking between two or three overweight people who are trying to lose weight and how to do that--trading stories. That's what my blog is about--I offer my stories to anyone who cares to read.
I'm not afraid to talk about it, obviously. But I'm a very overweight person. When skinny people who have never been overweight or obese start preaching about it, that's offensive to me. I just answered a question here on Answers by a size 6 person (she said so in her question) wondering why anyone would get weight loss surgery. That's rude and blind as well as offensive.

People can be offended because, 1, being obese is condemned in society even though the obesity rate is growing, 2, since so many people are so self conscience, it embarrasses them to think that they may be obese, 3, they might think your calling them obese!!!

i think the reason we are afraid to discuss t this problem is that in the world today so many people are absessed by looks and appearences. i think some think that they must look lika walking skeleton or else they are doomed i think if there was a lot less pressure ro look like the latest supermodel would not have so many young people that are either a norexic c or bullemic. i see no reason for all the obsession ro be thin especially since some people are not genetically meant to look like walking skeletons.

offende?no.but as far as it goes in schools, doctors and nurses and health people dont need to go in and tell an obese person that theyre obese.they already know it and it makes people feel bad when others point out there imperfections

i dont really get offended when someone asks me. but there are the put downs when people see my old pics.
maybe its the fear of remembering the old memories of all the putdowns and abuse by people. it's something that really doesnt need to be remembered by no one. or it's the sence of being and feeling one of the group (in shape, beautiful, etc.). no one wants to be told fatass or ugly anymore and never did. thats what this world is all about now.
