There is this rooster that comes by and sleeps on my tree. He belongs to the neighbor. I was outside and he came towards me and I walked off and he started getting closer and closer towards me. When I would walk off, he would start following me so I started walking faster and he started running and pecking at my foot. It didn't hurt by what does that mean? Did he feel threathened by me? He is the one that came close to me. He chased my neice but my neice was getting really close to him but when she ran away, he would leave her alone and stop chasing her.

Roosters almost always do this. They do it becuase they think they need to protect their flock/coop. It can be very painful, so watch out. Our rooster does this a lot, I find it is helpful to chase him before he chases me. Brooms work well to push them away. When they have fully developed spurs they will penetrate jeans, so be careful!

Those long sharp things on the inside of a Roosters foot, ankle area, are called "Spurs".. Don't let them get close enough, because they will attack you with their spurs, and it hurts like a mutha!

chickens learn by what is called "imprinting". I am sure you can find it on the Internet. Basically, they think whoever they see first is their "mom". In this case the bird is really old but LONELY.
So tell him you love him and you will take care of him as long as he only crows after 9:00 in the morning!

Roosters will chase you and spur you. They can hurt you pretty bad. I don't know why they do this. I am curious about that myself.

maybe you were wearing a color he didnt like,also he may have seen you as more of a threat then the kids
