that they actually enjoy seeing conflict and problems in the Middle East?
I think there are a lot of Bush haters that are that extreme - although they would never admit it.

I'm not the biggest Bush fan in the world, but people who oppose him so much they actually wish bad will on America and/or the Middle East are the real problem with out country

Grumpy -
I definitely feel that the high level of civilization the United States and other countries has reached can and will prevent us from doing what we must in war. Politicians are too concerned with political correctness, approval ratings and the media's coverage of war to do what must be done. But in our current situation in the middle east, what do you feel that we are not doing that we should be?

I also feel that the majority of those who are pointing fingers oppose what is happening simply because of our use of force. The are many ignorant people out there who think all conflicts can be solved peacefully. They are ignoring the facts and the malicious intentions of our enemies. If we had not used our military to defend ourselves, there would likely be just as many "finger pointers" furious with the administration for their inactions in national defense.

As far as the publicized and isolated war crimes, many anti-war protestors were surely pleased. It seems that most of the media feeds these fires with the negative coverage of the war. There are so many good things happening in the middle east: lives saved, children fed and clothed, people freed from tyranny, but you never see that on the news. They also never mention that this is by far the safest war we soldiers have ever fought in.

Are many war opposers crying crocodile tears for the victims and their country? No question. This especially upsets me when false tears are shed for the troops. These people have no idea who we are, what we stand for and what we are doing over there for them. If I die in the desert i hope no war protestors "cry" for me and say that I died in a senseless war. They might as well spit on my grave

I say yes, there are many people who oppose the administration's actions simply because they disagree with issues that have nothing to do with the war. That kind of friction is always to be expected between parties. But it has gotten out of hand with our current President.

Your question concerning those who are comparing current situations to vietnam was an angle I had not considered. There very well may be people out there who thrive for the thrill of being part of an anti-war movement. The desire to rebel does often accompany ignorance...

your question is interesting:
I think this latest round of fighting in Lebanon brings questions about whether America and Israel have achieved such a high level of civilization that we cannot do what is necessary to win wars against stateless terrorist foes. Some other questions - harsher ones - also deserve to be asked:

Is the impulse to fault America and Israel for failing to achieve a pristine standard of civilized conduct in war, always rooted in deep humanitarian concerns? Or, are many of those who are quick to point fingers doing so, actually seeking to blame America and Israel for choosing to use military means to defend themselves and defeat a conscienceless and evil enemy?

Is the impulse to publicize, dwell on and make a lascivious show of disgust for a few horrible-but-isolated war crimes and prison incidents based in the liberal-democratic principle that the individual is paramount and every life has meaning? Or are those who do so themselves actually themselves guilty of moral preening?

Are such people, in fact, just crying crocodile tears for the victims and for the reputations of their countries to hide the strictly partisan nature of their opposition, either to the underlying war policy or to the party affiliation of those designing and implementing the policy?

Do they actually oppose this administration and Israel's government for reasons having nothing to do with the war - say, the administration's view of gay marriage or the Israeli government's attack on socialist economics? Have they allowed their views of the matters about which they care more than the war to distort their vision and see the worst in everything done by governments they do not agree with?

Would many of those who approvingly quote and cite the prewar claims that America needed several hundred thousand more military personnel in Iraq as justification for their view that we are losing or have lost the war be standing at the ready to defend the size of those deployments against those who would have said we were using too heavy a hand in Iraq?

Are those in America who compare Iraq to Vietnam and Israel's 2006 Lebanon incursions to the 1982 Lebanon incursions doing so because they fear their nation's defeat and humiliation - or because they are longing to experience or relive the thrill of being part of an anti-war movement?

Is the oft-expressed concern that America was attacked because it cast too intimidating a shadow an honest one? Or do those who say so hold an essentially solipsistic and narcissistic view of the world, according to which America is to blame for the hostile acts and actions taken against it? Is the sole problem we face that we are fighting against an unscrupulous enemy using insufficient means - or is that problem compounded by the fact that we cannot see our way clear to fighting this war decisively to victory, in part due to disingenuous, partisan and fundamentally un-serious domestic criticisms?

Indeed the conundrum is how to fight and win, while at the same time strive for that higher sense of civil freedom.
I think you must do the winning first or there is no chance of the second.

Yours: Grumpy

Nah....people don't really hate Bush. They love terrorists and genocide. The only real problem they have with Bush is that he is in their way toward realizing these goals.

The liberal left are not misguided fools. They are evil people similar to the type that brought the Nazis to power. And that is exactly what will happen unless we oppose them.

This comes through VERY clearly in the current unprovoked war on Israel. They deliberately distort what is going on to serve the cause of the terrorists and attempt to create a situation where Israel is attacked and does not fight back. Why? Because they know that Iran is damn close to supplying Hezbollah with nuclear weapons. The liberals in this country are doing what they have always done.....work politically to allow a genocide to happen.

They did this with North Korea, Vietnam, Cuba, Russia and many other places. Hundreds of millions of innocent people killed. They wanted to cause that in Iraq by making us withdraw prematurely. Now, they want this to happen in Israel.

How about no.

I feel that we are in the wrong place at the wrong time. These people have been fighting each other for centuries. Do we as Americans really think we can change things ?
I am against war, grew up living with it on the news.
I have all ways, and always, supported our troops! But I hate that so many have to die.

I hate Bush. I don't hate America, and I don't want to see the Middle East explode like it has. But it is 75% Bush's fault that this is happening. And I love to see Bush fail in everything he does, even though I hope that America doesn't suffer for it. Bush failure is just expected, and I'm all too happy to watch. My opinion about this doesn't mean squat in the general nature of things, so the schadenfreude that I get to experience is completely justified.

I can say that I am probably one of the most extreme cases of Bush hating and I do not enjoy seeing any further conflict....

What I have actually determined from coming to this site is that most republican males think this is a competition. They truly think that we, the anti-Bush admin. ppl, want to see them fail so we can say we won or something. I have concluded that because of this they keep their minds closed to all legit rationale arguments.

For the record, us liberals do not see this as a competition in any way, shape or form. It is not a win.. lose thing here ppl. We just want our country to survive with all liberties still intact. It seems to me that republicans would rather see our country ran straight into ww3 rather than, in their minds, admit Bush was wrong. To them they see that as defeat or losing... too much testosterone if you ask me in this country's politics.

Their or there? Sure, but we cannot control extremist terrorist idiots. Can you believe that all of this bs is in the name of Allah? My Creator's name is George! I just don't get it.

Seriously, you are so right. Did you also know that Bush had a business partner that was the brother of Osama Bin Laden and died in a mysterious plane crash? I am not sticking up for either side really because I hate war for any reason, but it is kind of strange, isn't it?

it's not just him at this point i don't believe a single word out of any of them any more i don't think i need to wish any bad on any one as long as any of us live we'll know what it is to be screwed by our government and how helpless we are to add rational thought to action what actually concerns me most is that we have reduced the buying power of the dollar by 95% since we went off the gold standard and the objective is to increase the gnp to 27.4 trillion dollars by 2014 printing all that additional money should just about do it in the only thing holding it together now is confidence i doubt that will last

i hate bush, but not to the point that i like the war in iraq....i'm totally against the war, and feel beyond sorry for all the soldiers who had to fight there. my dad had to fight, and only by the grace of God did he come home in good health, but the loss of his friends and the post traumatic syndrome will always be with him. so i hate bush for sending troops over there...it was uncalled for, and bush many times pokes his little head into matters that don't concern him, or that could be dealt with without a war.

I hate Bush too and I agree with you...there are SOME people like that. Everyone who hates Bush isn't like that, though. I don't think it's limited to Bush haters, though. I think that happens with any party's opposition when they're in the White House. There will always be extremists.

There are very very few who actually wish bad will on America. You just hear about it from the right wing media who tries to inflate their numbers to make all liberals look bad. These same people probably wished bad will on America when Clinton was president too.
