I'd guess AIrwolf as well. However, though Jan-Michael Vincent's character Stringfellow Hawk was the mopey type (his brother was missing in action overseas), I don't know if he'd be considered a loner--he usually had Dominic Santini (played by Ernest Borgnine) by his side in his adventures.

and I never could figure out where he got the fuel, the parts or the weapons to maintain the thing. the circus act crop duster buddies could not have supplied the tech to run the advanced aviniocs systems or supply the ammo for the chain guns, let's just forget about the guided missiles problems.

I think that it was Airwolf with Jan Michael Vincent. That was a really great show.
