Everytime I put a CD in the writer it prompts me to insert a blank CD. The CD is blank and compatible with my computer, I think something's wrong with the driver, but I'm not sure what...

I have an HP Pavilion also and believe me the driver is damaged, I had to replace it and then worked just fine, since I had guarantee they shipped me one, ever since I have not had any more trouble. That happened to me also, whenever I wanted to burn music or pictures it would say the same thing.

Maybe not from your driver, maybe from the software used, try to reinstall it or install nero if you don't use it.
if this not work, the problem seem from driver.

open the computer, and make surwe the reibbon cable is conected with the mobo, sometimes they come lose,if you need my help let me know.
