My parents own a small warehouse behind their home which has being rented to a "friend". The roof is going to be fixed so my parents asked him to move out but now he is taking all the upgrades he did to the place, even walls he put up to make a room. Their is no contract everything was verbal. My father paid for the materials but the guy did the upgrades himself.

If he is not supposed to take the stuff what can we do or where do we call here in houston TX

Advise your parents to seek legal advice. Sounds like they need some answers. If nothing else, maybe they've learned that the only way to keep a "friend" is to have a contract. Nothing unfriendly about that - it protects both parties. Verbal agreements are a great way to end a friendship, kind of like lending money!

Also, tell them to TAKE PHOTOS NOW!

If you are asked to move out, you move out. There isn't enough clear info here to help you out with this. What do you mean by take the stuff? If the dad has the receipts, you'd be not wise to take anything. Leave, and if you feel strongly enough, then pursue legal action, say in small claims court.

Even verbal agreements can be binding.
But, your parents do own the structure.
If they have the reciepts or they can prove they bought the upgrades.
What was the agreement was for this guy to work as rent...
He'll most likely lose.
You parents need to talk to a lawyer....thats usually free

Does your father have proof he paid for the stuff? Are there any witnesses to the verbal contract? Contact a lawyer and see what your rights are.

If there is no contract, then there is no bond. A small warehouse should never have been used as an apartment. If you start a stink over it, you stand to lose a lot more than he does.

Good luck

In a different situation - when a building is sold - anything that is attached to the building goes with the building.

Talk immediately to a lawyer and also immediately go and take pictures before he takes any more down.

All this assumes that your parents want to object to him taking the stuff. If they don't object to what he is doing, then you should not fret over it.

Contact the Texas Department of Housing. Look up tenant/landlord laws. This might technically be considered theft or vandalism.

Perhaps your Dad should pay an amount to the guy for the labour that he put in making the walls etc?

No contract no deal. The creep doesnt have a leg to stand on. When he comes on the property have him arrested for trespassing.

If it's a private rental property and is not upto scratch and you decide to persue it, You'll probably end up being sued and fined.

I doubt there's much you can do.

Not a fantastic move.
