Civil war in Iraq (that we started). Israel and Lebanon. Ethiopia threatening to invade Somalia. Japan threatening to invade North Korea. Gunfire exchanged on the Korean border. Terrorist groups in Sri Lanka declaring they plan to start up a terror campaign again.

Are we in deep sh*t?

No. One: Japan, as a military whole, is pretty much.....broke. Their freewill trillion-dollar U.S. corporate takeover attempt blew up in their face and with little left to spend, sought Bill Clinton's help in basically a "loan"; something Clinton kindly denied.

I'd be amazed if Japan had the financial backing for a war with any country, much less N. Korea. The gunfire pretty much is DMZ "warning shots": an all too common "cold war" tatic. If anything, Japan and N. Korea will lock into a "cold war" much akin to the U.S. and Russia.

Ethopia vs: Somalia : Two savaged violent countries duke it out. With any luck, they'll kill each other. Why waste our time or involement???

Each day, we're getting pretty savvy in hunting down terrorist cells ( far better than revealed in the press ); look for some dead bad guys in Sri Lanka to drag up.

However, there are some US political theorists who suspect GWB may be cleverly angling an "overtime" stay in the White House by engaging in yet ANOTHER war conflict just prior to his sorely welcomed departure from office. There IS a real legal loophole that can give him this privilege---and keep the wheels of wartime riches (for him and the buds) rolling in.

As for a war draft goes, I can't rule out the possibility; however, look at what happened in the 60's: and learn how well ( NOT!! ) THAT idea went.

There's been a bill on the floor in Congress for years debating a draft that's even stricter than the last one - no exceptions for college students or women or parents, only for the politicians' kids.

If our nation needed more young people for the military, they can enact the draft faster than you can even think about it. I hope it doesn't happen but that won't stop it. I have grandsons that are a ripe age for drafting so I am praying for protection for all our young people.

No. i ought to enlist. for sure, i ought to ought to lie about my age...yet i'm tall so as that should not be a situation. you'll continually do what that baby in the Civil conflict did- positioned somewhat of paper with the be conscious '18' written on it on your shoe, hence it isn't technically mendacity once you're saying you're 'over 18' :D

Best thing you can do is buy a lawn chair and a case of beer and wait for the fireworks (nukes) to begin.

I doubt we'll ever see another draft. It doesn't really work for the way we fight wars now. The military needs smart, talented, dedicated people.
