well thats where science, and god seperate, Lava, is Magma inside the earth, it is the blood of the earth pretty much.
It's why we have gravity, an ozone, and everything that we need. Infact, Volcanos, formed Hawaii, and alot of other islands, in the oceans.
It is the very heart of the earth. Volcanos are formed, when the earth crust is being pushed by the thick hot liqid it takes many generations to form. Some volvanos never heal (close down) and can re-open, and excrete lava. There are many differant kinds of volcanos, and each of them act very differantly.
Tectonics, and plate movements, are some of the main reasons why volcanos erupt. That is when plates that form the earths surface move, or reposition themselves. At one point it is widely accepted that all the land mass on the earth was once a big solid land mass, and that over time, it slowly drifted away. Theres evidince of this, with Inda, it is slowly breaking away from asia.
all the changes in the earths crust, leaves open for some serious activity deep inside the earth, when pressure builds up, it has to release itself, through a volcano, it isn't until the volcano erupts, is the hot liquid considered lava.
Lava, and it's physical properties, is very important, but it is seroiusly dangerous, Living near active regions, is not a good idea.

The majority of islands on the planet are created by volcanic activity, Pangaea was able to separate into the diverse continents we know today due to plate tectonics (of which magma plays an important part), and volcanoes are among the planet's most impressive natural phenomena. But is there a greater purpose you're looking for? Lava is only molten rock that surfaces since it's under pressure. In the end, are you asking why God lets rocks melt?

The implication of god in geomorphology is not a scientific argument. Please direct such questions to the religion category.
Volcanos exist because the interior of the earth is molten magma, and that continents drift, creating region of subduction (where continental plates impact one another) and oceanic dorsals (where continental plates move away from one another). The extra pressure caused by these movements has to vent somehwere, and volcanos are a way to release that pressure. If it was not for those geological forces, erosion would, over the course of billion of years, make the whole planet a giant shallow ocean.
If you want to see purpose or intension in there, that is your call.

In the pre flood earth volcanoes did not exist, but the sin of man altered the earth, now this is not something I´m making up, if you ever heard of Kenneth Copland, he has a series of videos in which he has a model of the pre-flood earth, three concentric circles of metal, habitable land an then land with water in-between. I know it sounds crazy, but that´s where tectonics originated thus separating the continents and forming the highest mountains.
You should look it up!

1. It recyles the material that the earth's crust is made from;
2. It puts and mixes gases in the atmosphere (the real source of any so-called global warming -- not industrial activity which pales by comparison with a major volcanic eruption);
3. It builds new land masses (such as the Hawaiian Islands);
4. God's ways are not our ways, so we can only guess why He might have made them.

we live on the outer crust of a hot ball of swirling molten rock. the earth is full of lava and sometimes it comes up through cracks in the earth's top layer because of pressure inside the core. that's a volcano. it has no real purpose, but it is an integral part of God's entire creation of earth.

Not such a silly question.
Volcanoes replenish a lot of minerals and gases to the surface.
The moon's tidal effect puts stresses in the Earth's mantle that cause volcanoes to stir.
So basically, if you want to assign God to what is happening, He would have created the moon in order to supply periodic replenishment of material to us via volcanic activity.

You can see many wonderful things made by God: mountain, waterfall, cliff, ocean and vocalno is just among them. Maybe active vocalno can be dangerous but when the vocalno erupt, lava from it grow upon the land and make the land generous.Generous soil is good for argriculture.

Volcano is been created by God to relief the excess pressure of the globe, sometimes it is the way of throwing out the poisons of the globes which goes inside,because the globe is a living creature, it has a heart and the magma is the blood and it does breath the air from from the plants and we are the germs and viruses who always attacking her and trying to destroy her, so the magma burn us.

It's useful for wiping out entire cities like Pompeii when necessary.
Did you know that while Canada is the second largest country on Earth, it hasn't recorded a single volcanic eruption in 139 years of nationhood?
But God gets us with winter.
