As Jimmy Page put it, "It's light and shadow." The ability to play loud and quiet, soft and hard, fast and slow, all within the context of one song! There are so many things going on at one time that you don't have a chance to get bored...
Check out "Babe I'm Gonna Leave You" from their first album. It is a perfect example of what I'm talking about. Unfortunately, most of what made Led Zeppelin great is not played on classic rock radio; they just keep playing the same five songs over and over...
By the way John Bonham's nick name was Bonzo not Gonzo.

Led Zeppelin is a great band because they brought a new sound to an era. They made songs that became iconic in rock and roll. The guitar playing was untouchable and masterful. They had sounds that would forever change the history of music.

What "made" Led Zeppelin a great band?? They were a great mix of talent. Robert Plant has a strong voice. Jimmy Page was an awesome guitarist...very original and of course...their drummer was one of THE best drummers....just can't remember his name (the late John Bonham?). They helped shape the music history during an interesting time. The music of today is nothing compared to old school...

They were a British band heavily influenced by Southern Blues.
Their sound was constantly evolving... every album sounds different then the one before it.
They never won any Grammys, yet everyone will always remember them and know who they are.
If you have never listened to a Led Zeppelin album, then you need to immediately! Go down to your local music shop, purchase any of their albums, go home and listen to it in its entirety.
Angels weep when we don't listen to Zeppelin.

I used to think it was Page' s guitar, but the more I listen, (and I've been listening to Zep for about 28 years), I realize it' s Gonzo's beats. Listen to the drums. That's what pulls the whole thing together.

the same chemicals that made PINK FLOYD the greatest band alive; great talent and a lot of acid.
