I have heard so many things about him like he is one of the best strikers in the world and stuff like that. But after wathcing his performance in the WC, I thought those statements were mere exaggerations. He was not so impressive as portryaed by the media butI do not know much about him so thiis just my assessment after I saw him in the WC and I could very well be wrong. What do you folks think of him ? Is he really what the media claims about him to be or is he just any other ordinary striker?

Well, I've seen him play with Milan for 7 years and I can guarantee you all those things they say about him are true. But now he's 30 and I think his career has taken a descending rote, he's not becoming younger anymore, you know. He gave his best years to Milan, scoring an impressive number of goals and becoming the second all time goalscorer of Milan's history. He has scored in any important victory of Milan, these years, being a very important(maybe the most important) piece of the team. Then in 2004 he won the Golden Ball, 'beating' players like Henry, Ronaldinho and Deco. During his best years he has been considered as the greatest goalscorer of the World and he's the first all time goalscorer of the Champions League(the most important European competition for clubs). He possess a very good technique and the ability for scoring from any position. Don't forget another thing, that he comes from a country with not such a great tradition in football and he (as the captain) made it compete for the first time in the WC, giving a great performance in the qualifying round

If you have seen him at club level you will see a different Shevchenko. The problem he had during the World Cup was that it was Shevchenko +10. A striker no matter how good he is needs a good midfield that will create offensive plays. The striker's role is to transform the passes that reach him into goals. Shevchenko was very limited by the lack of talent of his teammates.

Give him the benefit of the doubt until you see if he can deliver with Chelsea.

sometimes, players' reps are made more in the league games that in the internationals. WC is the olympics of football and with so many stellar performances out there, it's not surprising if andriy comes short when comparisons are made. i've seen him in the wc and i think he played well enough. he's still young and he can only improve with age and experience. he's one of my favorite footballers. i'm just hoping with chelsea he gets enough play time to really develop his game.
