I live in NYC, it's expensive. I'm not an actor, but I'm working at a casting place. I definitely recommend trying a job like that because you see the insides of the business. You'll probably be stuck with a waitressing job. Good Luck.

I dream of this; however I'm not ready.
I've been to NYC, lived in Manhattan. It's very competitive, very tough. But worth it. Do your homework before going there. Read all the guides, including the Rough Guide and Lonely Planet.
If I were going in a month or three, I'd make sure I had three months rent, minimum, saved up. I'd make sure I had about $500 on top of that at MINIMUM.
I'd consider moving to a town or suburb across the Hudson, in NJ, or somewhere in Riverdale, Bronx, or snug in a tiny apt. in Queens.
