Why is it so expensive? obviously the equipment is expensive. But the entrance fees are outrageous. I don't have $400-$500 to just give out like that. Any suggestions? It's hard for me to save money. And I'm not getting any younger. **SIGH**

Actually, you dont necessarily "need" to goto school to be an audio engineer. I found myself being taken "under the wing" of an audio engineer over 6 years ago by complete accident just because of my curiousity, and now I work for one of the best/most successful audio companies in the area. I do everything from small fairs and festivals, pageants, televised events, even concerts with national acts and some studio work. The best advice I can give you is that you dont need schooling, yes it can help, but if you find someone willing to teach you the tricks of the trade, experience in this field talks more than a degree. Dont be afraid to message me if you need anything, Im always willing to help out a fellow audio junkie =]

Not sure where you live, but I'll bet there is a recording studio somewhere in your area close by. Contact them. Also, you might want to check scholarships, grants and loans. I'm sure you will be learning more than just "audio engineering". Check the local library for help. Get yourself a 'mentor' someone who takes interest in you and wants to help you in your career. You mgiht also consider your local radio stations - internships, etc. Here in Nashville, we have several schools which feature music and engineering, production, programming and recording....Good luck
