How do I kill a cedar hedge without cutting the tree? Someone suggested introducing copper into the tree. What poisons a cedar?

I believe Ozzie is on to me! Possibly it is a large tree that has grown out of control and untrimmed shading my entire yard. Or maybe I have a fear of blades

Are you doing something sneaky here? Is the hedge even on your property? It's just a little odd that you want to kill it without cutting it. Seems to me that normally you would cut and remove all the hedge treating the stumps with herbicide as you go. If I'm correct then I suggest that you approach the owner of the hedge and discuss this matter together. And no, I'm not a hedge hugger.

you may find that after you fence it in you end up buying shrubs and trees to soften the look of the fence. If you go with shrubs you can get some that are blooming at all times of the year and you can cut the branches early and bring them in and they bloom in the house, however some shrubs need to be pruned, so if your not into that this may not be for you. Board fencing has to have a very firm foundation, if your posts are not put in properly the fence won't hold up. It is expensive but worth it to hire that done professionally. Do fence styles change, and are the bylaws where you live strict on the height etc. of fences. Decisions , decisions, good luck oh by the by you could do both, like wooden down the sides and the back trees and shrubs or whatever would be good for your situation. Library books have some great ideas.

I have several cedar trees on my property that I'm renting. These trees are over grown into the electronical lines. The landlord won't keep them trimmed often enough or cut them down as I've asked. One of the limbs rubbed a whole in a line & blew my electricity out. I'd like to kill these trees to in force him to remove them. What is the best way I can kill these trees without him knowing?

An easy way to kill a cedar tree/hedge is with salt....yup salt.
I work in a garden centre and tons of people try to return trees every spring because they plant their trees too close to the road in the winter and the road salt gets on them and kills them.
I know it sounds crazy but it really works...sprinkle salt around the base where the roots are and water it in...the trees should start turning brown & dying off on about a week.

GOOD LUCK

Girdling will do it. Take a sharp knife or saw and cut through the bark (all the way through it) all the way around the part of the plant nearest the ground that will kill it.

Or...failing that, spray it with Round Up weed killer. That stuff kills everything!

If you know anyone who works for Aspen...they have some serious tree/bush killer. A little spray of that stuff and you can kill anything!
