"The informal slogan of the Decade of Women became “Women do two-thirds of the world's work, receive 10 percent of the world's income and own 1 percent of the means of production.”

While I'm tempted to just say 'yes', because I'm a woman working in management in Corporate America, I would have to answer like this instead:

It probably really depends on the company/field and the type of work you're doing.

I will say, however, that women who work full time and also have to take care of children do more work. Almost every woman I work with is constantly complaining about how their husbands feel somehow entitled to sit and watch tv/surf the net/play video games at night after work and that they are left to make dinner, clean up after it, get the kids bathed, and put them to bed.

If you look at it that way, women do do two-thirds of the world's work.

Maybe it is so in the labor force. However, this is generally not true in other areas of the society. In the US, more and more colleges and universities admit more females than males. Among professional schools, most notably in medical schools, a majority of schools shows a greater percentage of female students. This trend can be observed in medicine today in the US as the number of female physicians is matching and will probably exceed the number of male physicians in the near future. And by no means do female physicians get paid less than their male counter parts.

I think so. Look at all the hot jobs out there, from Management to CEO... If you're a woman, you get a cut in the paycheck automatically. Study the numbers, there's no more exact science.
I did that once with my husband when he was looking for a new job... Women do get paid less. In general.

No, it's not true.

You have to look at what kinds of jobs men and women are each likely to have. High-risk jobs are comprised primarily of men--men are the risk-takers, for example, and of course they pay more.

Take the above into account, along with women going on maternity leave, and women staying home with children and possibly going back to work later. Men also tend to work longer hours than women.

Yes, unfortunately it's still a man's world out there. Women work just as hard as men & in somethings even harder, but are paid less for the same work.

I don't know about working more. But I do know that with women and men who have the same job titles, women only take home about 70% of what their male counterparts take home. It's called sexism, and the glass ceiling. Women can't go up in pay or rank.

in my experience in the civilian sector, no they get paid the same.

in my experience in the military sector, woman do LESS work and get paid the same. often times a lot less work, with special treatment, and they get paid the same.

10 guys for every one woman in the military. women get so much special treatment in the military it makes me sick.
