That you'll look really stupid with a tramp stamp, especially when you get older.

You should consider not getting it at all in the first place! Just remember, it takes 20$ to get a tattoo on and 10,000$ to take it off!

You may think tattoos look hot on a firm young muscled body, but have you seen how attractive tattoos are on an old hag or geezer? You won't stay young forever!

If you are still fascinated by tattoos, you should consider that type that you can paint on and remove and change whenever you feel like changing.

Your body is a gift, don't play Russian roulette with it. You will have to live with the mishaps for the rest of your life.

Good Luck!

Only go to a professional with a studio that is prepared to show you their health certificates.

Take your time choosing what you want to live with forever.

Don't get one on your neck it gets oldest fastest and tends to look bad over 40, get it on a place you can cover if you need to,or want to at some point ,knuckles are just for prison bitches.

Don't let anyone talk you into anything too big if you don't have the bod or confidence to wear it.

Finally less is more like coco chanel said! the right one is great..... 5 shitty ones look like you were drunk everytime you went near a tattoo studio.

Make sure they use a brand new disposable set of needles so that you do not contract Hepatitis C. Intravenous drug use by sharing needles and tatoos are the 2 top ways to get the virus...and it is a life long nasty one. Also, the tat is there forever unless you try to remove it and then there is a brutal scar for the rest of your natural life...those are your 2 choices...a tatoo or a scar. Make certain that you do not tatoo a name on your body for if you split up the name remains and you will not like it...so choose a tatoo that is special to you and will continue to be special for the rest of your life..

The reason I've never gotten one is because I can't imagine being a grandma with a tattoo. I've also seen some really cool ones in my day, but never one so cool that I'd want to wear it every day for the rest of my life. They also gravitate in weird directions as you age. My father-in-law is a prime example of that...so much so that none of his children followed in his footsteps (or ink-prints as the case may be)

I think most of all you should consider what it will look like 40 years from now, when gravity finally takes it toll on your body. It will eventually be someplace other than where you put it... and wrinkles make for some really harsh shadows in the ink.

safety, quality, content. make sure you go to a liscened respectable artist, look at his portfolio of work, i would ask to see his custom stuff as opposed to a stencilled book. this is a lifetime reflection of you, i would design something that speaks to who you are spiritually, your core being. cutsey stuff will look ridiculous when you're older, you may not always be a naked figure, gothic type style.also i would recommend getting inked in a place you can cover up if you need to for your career. this is a lifetime commitment so don't try for the cheap, go for the artistic and the sublime.

Your reason. Is it because every one else has one, or because you view it as living art or because the image will have deep personal meaning.

Aside from that... I'd say the best thing to consider is the artist him or herself. If you want something unique that you draw are they willing to work with you so you have the tattoo you wish to have. References never hurt.

Ask for references.

Make sure the tattoo artist uses disposable needles, and make sure you watch him/her open the needle packets in front of you.

Eat something before you go (otherwise your blood sugar may drop & you'll faint like I did).

Find an old person with a tatoo...then look to see how it looks in 40 years or so...then decide what to do.
