Hi...I am a fellow player. If you are a beginner, Squier is OK...it is made in Mexico for Fender and is their entry-level brand.... but the important thing is the quality of the guitar and not so much what brand it happens to be. Pros stick with tried-and-true brands as a rule, such as Gibson, Fender, Gretsch, Guild, etc. but there are good and bad guitars of every make.

My honest advice is to NOT buy an overly cheap guitar; you'll regret it. Cheap guitars are poorly made and hard to play, causing the beginner to get frustrated and quit. And no matter what, ALWAYS try out the guitar before you buy it. No two guitars are made alike.

Go to your local guitar store...these guys are players and enjoy seeing a new player come into their store. Tell them what you want to spend...they will show you options in your price range.

When picking a guitar, don't buy it based on looks; buy it based on its playability. A good guitar has nice "action" (ease of fingering the strings up and down the neck).

Also, invest in an electronic guitar tuner...it will enable you to tune accurately every time, and educate your ear as to how a properly tuned guitar should sound.

Good Luck and happy playing!

I've never been to fond of Squiers, to be honest. But If your just learning to play, then you might want to consider buying a Squier because they are cheaper then higher brands, and the small frets allow beginners to navigate the strings quicker, If you find that your good at guitar and wan't to continue learning, save up and by either a Fender or a Gibson, I recommend Fender though, I have a Classic Black and white Fender Stratocaster with Dual pickups.

I'm not familiar with Squier guitars. But I do know that when choosing your first guitar, the 'action' matters most. The strings should be easy to hold down without losing pitch or having to retune it often.

There is a music shop in my area where you can rent a new guitar of your choosing and when you've decided which one you like, have the rental money applied to the purchase price and they're usually very flexible with payments.

Maybe you can find something like that where you are.
