You don’t have to give up all the foods you love when you’re pregnant. You just need to eat smart and make sure that most of your choices are healthy ones. You only need 300 extra calories per day to support your baby’s growth and development.

When you're pregnant, what you eat and drink is the main source of nourishment for your baby. In fact, the link between what you consume and the health of your baby is much stronger than once thought. That's why doctors now say, for example, that no amount of alcohol consumption should be considered safe during pregnancy.

The extra food you eat shouldn't just be empty calories — it should provide the nutrients your growing baby needs. For example, calcium helps make and keep bones and teeth strong. While you're pregnant, you still need calcium for your body, plus extra calcium for your developing baby. Similarly, you require more of all the essential nutrients than you did before you became pregnant.

One more thing. Even though lots of foods, particularly breakfast cereals, are fortified with folic acid, doctors now encourage women to take folic acid supplements before and throughout pregnancy. So, make sure you got tons of folic acid supplements!

First of all, go to a doctor, buy a pregnancy book (there are even pregnancy diet books (as in "diet" what to eat not to lose weight) and take prenatals).

Secondly, there has been studies on fish, especially bottom feeder types like shrimp and the fish that eat them. Stay away from shark especially. I was told to only eat tuna (like the canned kind) once a week or less. It has high levels of mercury and other PCBs.

Thirdly, don't drink, smoke, use drugs (even OTC drugs like asprin and ibprophen without contacting your doctor first), and always tell your OB what prescriptions you take (ie, psychiatric drugs, migrane medicine, allergy meds you may have to stop taking them, or take a different dose/kind).

Finally, please educate yourself on pregnancy, buy an assortment of books on the subject so that you are well informed on all warning signs, normalcy in feelings (physically and emotionally) and breastfeeding).

Good luck! And congrats!

Drink LOTS of Water. Even if you have to use Crystal light to give it some flavor. That amniotic fluid surrounding your little one changes a lot so your body needs as much water as you can take in to replenish. You don't want your princess or little man swimming in sodas in there do you? Just kidding, but do drink lots of water. Because constipation and such during pregnancy is NOT AT ALL a fun story to share with your girlfriends and the water will help you out there too. Good Luck!

You can eat your normal diet, just watch the quantities, and stay away from too many sweets. Your body will tell you if you need something specific (you will crave it). Also, be sure to take your prenatal vitamins, and don't stop exercising. Good luck!

Doctor, definitely.

Just avoid toxic stuff like booze, drugs, caffeine, smoking and you're on the right track. Probably need to worry more about what to eat to get enough nutrients than what not to eat.

Don't eat much fish unless doc says otherwise...mercury.

Congratulations :)
As for foods, anything that makes you feel queasy lol. Just try to eat a balanced diet. If your dealing with morning sickness, try eating smaller meals more often. Wise thing is to avoid caffiene, cut back on coffee, tea, sodas, etc...

Good luck to you !

Stay away from sweets. The more sweets you eat, the bigger the baby grows and then it's much harder to deliver.
