Where we all came from is an interesting question.

For me the answer is fairly simple.

Birmingham.

But I have a feeling that you are looking for something a little deeper.

Harbourne Hospital, Birmingham. Circa 1959.
Now, this hospital is no longer in existance, unless you are a Christian and can look at the fact of my existance means that - even though we cannot see Harbourne Hospital it must be real. Can you imagine that mere chance alone could have left these words on this very web-page if there HADN'T been a Harbourne Hospital? Preposterous!

And there must, therefore, ALWAYS BE and ALWAYS HAVE BEEN a Harbourne Hospital - though only the faithful will ever see it. And if you count the number of letters in Harbourne Hospital you will see that there are 17. I was born on the 17th day.... oh my god, I'm god!

We are finally beginning to notice vague evidence of life elswhere in the cosmos. It is possible that something occured somewhere else and that this event, mingling with the proto-planet earth set in motion the swirls and eddies that created organised systems.

Now - consciousness.... another ball game of a different hue.

I know that my body is actually a commune. A collection of billions of tiny organised organisms going about their lives. There is some kind of unifying force (that some claim to see and to have photographed) that kinda shapes this thing into the me I can see if I look in a mirror.

But that isn't the me that is ME. If I cut my hair I am not diminished. If I should lose a leg I'm still me. My consciousness is not reduced. But where is that consciousness kept? Does god have it? Did god give it to me? Did he fling it in through the window of Harbourne Hospital on that fateful morning all those years ago?

And what of the various clues that science has been exploring for a few decades now about alternate levels of reality...

All that 'Dan Brown' stuff is actaully loved by the church and organised religions coz it is still people sized... and the churches 'god' is people sized. It stops people from thinking bigger.... so they stay in control.

If a being was really powerful enough to create this entire many leveled universe with billions of galaxies and vast energies, would it REALLY be interested in whether or not I believed in it? Would it be a 'HIM' ? If it was really a Him, where is it's Her? And don't think it should be the 'virgin' thing as she didn't come across until muuuuuuch later.

And the universe is about 13.7 billion years old.. so where was god in all of that time? Are we saying that he came to little old earth last of all... and now he is lying around nearby in space watching his newest toy? whilst Mrs God is away doing the shopping or visiting her mother?

It's all good stuff this, innit!

Lots of things to think about and debate.
Just remember, it is all an illusion. It's just a ride.

I believe evolution is the best explanation that we have at this time for our origins. I think it is wrong for some churches to try to squash scientific thought to preserve how they interpret the bible. Some churches even assert that dinosaurs are a hoax. It reminds me of how the Catholic Church suppressed the work of Galileo and Copernicus, because the scientific theories did not fit in with the church's interpretation of the Bible.

I think that the creation stories were created during Isreal's exile as part of the bigger story of the history of Isreal. I don't know if you noticed, but there are actually two separate creation stories in Genesis, one in Genesis 1:1-2:4 and one from Genesis 2:5-2:25. The first account is the one most people usually think of, where the world was created in 6 days, with people on the last day. The second account is where man was created after the the habitat was created, and then creatures (and then woman) were created. Two contradictory things cannot both be true (right?) so the Bible can't really be a historical account of what happened.

This doesn't mean that it can't be an accurate account of a people's relation with God. It also doesn't mean that God doesn't exist either.

The complexity of the human mind and body there has to have been a creator.
The body of Adam was created by God Genesis 2:7.
Then God provided the spark of life and the body became a living human being with soul life.
Romans1:20 For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes,His eternal powerand divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made.
God created the heavens and the earth Genesis1:1
Along with all life on the earth Genesis-12,20-30.
Human life is God's creation.Genesis 1:26.
John 3:16.
Nothing wrong withMills and Boon one at times has dreams of the Knight in shining armour.
Take care!

i think Charles Darwin solved this over a 100 years ago there is no refuting his evidence. Natural selection and evolution is happening all the time and has been since the first single celled creatures appeared on earth. i mean no offence to those who choose religion, but religion is a great way to help people who are scared of death by giving them something to cling on too and a great way also of controlling the masses and weaker minded but not much use for anything else other than a good feeling towards fellow man and good lessons in morality all of which i agree with . but Darwin's evidence is there all around us. however i am yet to see evidence of a greater being.

why just because something is complex like the human mind does there have to be a creator.
we evolved from apes get used to it theres nothing wrong with it. it may have been gods idea to create the amino acids that life began from but the rest is down to evolution

Learning both religion and science at school i had impartial and open minded views regarding both possibilities. For a long time i was leaning more towards evolution etc, but recently i came across the website below which raises so many questions and doubts about evolution, but in a scientific way:

God made us.
Da Vinchi was not even around during the time of Jesus. He was not a theologian. Da Vinchi was an artiest.

Dan Brow wrote a fictional book based on a true story. In otherwords the book is not true. It is fiction.

This Website goes into detail on what's wrong with the Di Vinchi Code.

I think omnigomni's got it down pat. Except that evolution actually predates single-celled organisms, going back to the first self-replicating molecules.

Evolution-deniers are simply not looking at the facts & evidence. They are also mistaken if they think evolution is incompatible with the concept of a god; some peoples' narrow interpretation of a god perhaps, but not deities in general.
