Ignore these doubters, I say - go for it, with the E-o-w-y-n- spelling. Now that the movies have come and gone, most people have heard the name and seen it written down. And it IS a lovely name - and there's enough Staceys and Kylies in this world already!

Spelling it Eowynn would give it the same pronunciation if you speak a European language as a native language. The "Continental" vowels are different from the American vowels. Where we have ay, ee, eye, oh, you, the Continental vowels are ah, eh, ee, oh, oo. Based on that, the spelling in Tolkien will give the correct pronunciation.

I like the pronunciation, but went i first read it, my tendency was to pronounce it "ow-wynn" And she could get made fun of for that. Maybe Ayowynn or Ayowinn would be a better spelling. But, I agree Aowynn is definitely better than Eowynn - that looks like "Eww...wynn" to me...ick! The name is beautiful though!

Only when you spell it that way.
Americans would have problems pronouncing Eowyn but true Tolkien fans know because he used to put a pronunciation guide in his early books.
The name is derived from Anglo Saxon.

I think it looks a little funny. I also had no idea how to pronouce it without you telling me. Is it Irish? If it is, then I think its ok, but if not, then I think its slightly odd. You are right though, the A is better than the E, if you are an American.

My name is Aowyn I had to change it to an a because people would call me Owen its a pretty frustrating name for me because all new people I meet or new teachers or something nearly always get it wrong but its easly pronounced a-o-win

I think the kid will get teased about it. Teachers will always say his name wrong along with everyone else who has to pronounce it and he'll get embarrassed. If you give him a simple middle name that he could by if he doesn't like Aowynn or gets sick and tired of people mispronouncing his name.
