it may depend on the question. what do you want to get out of it?

1. a laugh? yes you definitely can get funny answers.
2. someone to agree with you? the high number of people on this side make it quite likely you'll find an ally.
3. Information of how different people think on a certain topic? yes opinions are often given
4. Information on a special question? maybe just browsing the net will be more informative, but sometimes older things/ very rare subjects can be hard to find on the web.
5 points? it gives an element of competition and achievement even though it's just in a virtual reality. it is similar as to why people play computer games.

I like how it opens my mind to different points of view, so many people from different backgrounds can be united in the quest for truth & understanding.

...or maybe just having some people to chat with - no strings attached : )

It does help. I had once asked for a location of a particular shooting range here in the Philippines and I got the correct and exact answer. Although, some are asking funny or nonsense questions, thats why they are the getting the same answers. Besides, answering on Yahoo is a good way of unwinding and at the same time, expanding your knowledge by sharing your idea to others, which in most cases are beneficial to both. Well then, lets continue to answer on Yahoo.

If nothing else, it's an enjoyable activity for people. Why not do something for points where you can share knowledge or learn something new? Is it any less productive than watching TV? I think there have been plenty of times where the questions asked were genuine curiosities that received genuine answers. I don't see anything wrong with that.

Yes it helps some people. I would venture a guess of less than 2% of the questions.

It would be nice if the people that are asking are really asking a legitimate question.

It would also be very nice if the people that answered, really answered a question rather than just puting anything and everything down.

No, because askers just pick the answer they already agree with, which isn't going to solve the problem otherwise they could have solved it themselves already.

Putting a question to vote might help get a better perspective on the situation, though. Personally, I don't answer for points, I just like to give my opinion to people that are asking for it. Makes me feel all warm and fuzzy.

I've gotten great help, both from the questions I've asked and from just reading other people's questions and answers on topics I'm interested in. You just have to stay away from stupid questions.

I find this really amusing. I've asked a few questions so far and really impressed about how ppl respond to them. I'm also a person, who can't just say yes/no to a question. I like to elaborate about it. I think some ppl really benefit from this site, yeah.

Depends on the question, the answerers, the good knowledge or common sense applied by said answerers.
