I am 17. My parents just split up about a week ago. My mom was dropping me off at work (eck no, I can't drive yet) and she told me that she was going to go into AA and take counseling. She said in a couple months she thought it would be a good idea for me to take counseling too, to work out any issues I have from the abuse I've dealt with the past 6 years (verbal, not physical). I think I am fine. lol I've gotten tough to it over the years. You know? lol But do you think I should try it anyway and see what comes up or what? It sounds like it would be interesting to hear what they had to say, but I'm not one to share personal information very often. Opinions? Thanks. =)
(I suppose it's fair to mention that alcoholism, drugs, and infidelity are involved. -_- Not me though! I despise the stuff.)

Counseling is great. You've been through a lot and it will help you work it out. More people than you think have been throught it. A few sessions can make all of this change a lot easier. If you don't go, you'll have to deal with the issues later, and it will hurt more.

First sweetie. let me tell you that you sound like a very well rounded individual. For that you should be very proud, often times in these situations people want to blame their circumstances on others around them . Secondly, I say why not. It may be a good way to let some steam off. When in counseling you don't always have to talk about "issues", it is just a way to get everything out without someone judging you. Hope all goes well and hope that you have a healthy and beautiful baby.

Well, it sounds like you've had a hard time and so has your mom. Personally, I don't think that it is a bad idea. It does my heart good to hear that you hate alcoholism, drugs and infedelity. Right now, you may think you are immune to the affects this has on you, but down the line it could affect your relationships on what you will allow from other people. So, I think its a good idea. If you don't get anything from it and your on the right track, stop going and ask your mom to understand and support your decision. Good Luck honey!

There is a group called (ALANON) i may have mispelled it, but it is a group for people who have had to live with alcoholism. My mom went when her sister was an alcoholic and she learned a lot from it. Your still young, and may think nothing has affected you....but i think councelling is a good idea. You may have problems surface in the future, when you have a family...or a serious relationship. No one thinks your screwed up for going. But i think it shows a lot of strenth, and you may be suprised what you learn. It wont hurt you, maybe you wont get anything out of it, but still no loss. I think it is a great idea.

You sound like a nice person who dosent need counseling, but it's nice to have someone you can tell anything if you can't tell your friends or anyone else close to you. very comforting :)
