Believe it or not, Windex kills ants. After killing the visible ants in the house, spray a light mist around the area that they are coming in. You just have to remember to refresh the area after shampooing or washing. It really does work.

clean your house really good as there might be some hidden candy or sweets that have attracted them. If you have pets they may be attracted to the food, so merely put the pet food out of reach for them (make the ants work to find it). For instance no ants arrive for my cat's food bowl but if water is mixed with it I have a million ants around. If you've tried everything then call an exterminator. They will spray outside of your home as well. Maybe the season or flood waters, or anything really have made the ant hills active, or maybe they are lacking food. While the exterminator is there have them spray for other bugs and you'll be good for a longer while (and safer) than if you'd have used bug sprayed around your child.

If you have that many in that short a time - call Orkin or a similar company. They can use some strong stuff and put it in places where your daughter can't reach.
Try red pepper at your window sills and doorways. Ants don't like crossing it because it's hot.

Try salt. Plain salt. Spill some around their usual tracks. It proved to be remarkably effective at home. It's cheap, odourless and harmless for anybody but the ants :)

If they are the big black ants, the traps are useless.
The ants are looking for water, and since it is so hot and dry outside, they come in looking for moisture.
I use a bait that looks like sawdust. I got it from a professional exterminator

Sevin dust on the outside perimeter of the house. I used it a few weeks ago and have not seen ants since.

Try putting the traps outside the house instead of inside.
And if you can spray the outside of the house too!
Plus, if you can find them......flood the ant hills around your home.

Ordinary dish soap. Put about 20% dish soap & 80% water in a spray bottle and spray them and their trails. Works great, and won't hurt your kids or pets.

I bought some stuff from Wal-Mart called "Terro". It worked for me. They eat this stuff and take it back to their nest, and it kills them all. It is not real expensive and a little goes along way.
