Which smartphone should I buy?

need to buy a smartphone (or blackberry) to check emails and use it as a GPS while driving. I want to buy only a phone (not a new plan). Which brand (or product) should I buy?

Treo 700 or my new favorite. . . the E-TEN G500 [GSM] or if you have the money - iMate JASJAR [GSM] [$1000]

All three can be purchased on eBay without contracts
