All jet engines, which are often called, gas turbines, work on the principle that a tremendous thrust is required to drive the plane forward. The engine sucks air in at the front. The inlet and fan pull the air in. The compressor, raises the pressure of the air. The compressed air is then sprayed with fuel and the mixture is lit by an electric spark. The burning gases expand and blast out through the back of the engine. As the jets of gas shoot backward, the nozzle releases the air and gas mixture and the engine and the aircraft are thrust forward. Jet engines drive aircraft forward with great force.

Same as a car engine. Suck, squeeze, bang, blow, and go. A car engine does all four things in the same spot at different times, a jet engine does all four at different spots at the same time.
The fan at the front of the engine pulls in air. The compressor, which is a lot like the fan, but with less space, compresses the air. Fuel is injected into the compressed air and ignited, which causes the pressure of the air to rise even higher. The hot air then goes through the turbine, which is spun by the expanding air and drives the fan and compressor. The air is then propelled out of the rear of the engine by its expansion, and according to Newton's third law (every action has an equal and opposite reaction), creates thrust in the opposite direction of the air flow.

First, this engine always need air for fuel combustion. The air which is needed to burn the fuel, is being sucked into a jet engine through a fan turbine. In there, the air is being compressed in a compressor turbine and combustion starts to take place. Due to the combustion process, the air becomes hot and blows very fast at the back of the engine which can push the airplane forward. That's f***in all!!
