for when a person acts a certain way because people already percieve them that way, so they just give in. For instance, people may think a girl is brainless, so she just acts dumb, even if she is not, because people already think of her that way. I know I learned this term in college, and can not think of what it is now!

It is called the "stereotype threat." It is NOT a self-fulfilling prophesy. A self-fulfilling prophesy is a situation in which a person believes something to be true so it is true for THEM, or in which they have to make a decision, their decision is right for them. The two aren't related at all. The answer is Stereotype Threat. The stereotype threat is believed to be the reason african-americans and other minorities do poorly in school. If everyone expects them to do badly, why should they try? (I'm african-american so don't bother pointing out the fact that that might sound racist). Ok I'm doing some editing because more people are answering wrongly, it is NOT suggestibility. I know for a fact it's stereotype threat because suggestibility came up on the AP Psych exam when I took it, so did self-fulfilling prophesy. Please people use a RELIABLE source for your answers.

The quick and short answer is: Suggestibility... But I think your question depends on whether or not the "term" has been spoken or is just assumed as perception by others. There is a major difference. For example "The Law Of Attraction" states that like attracts like. In other words, if one feels pretty, then they will attract those around them that support that feeling. And the opposite is also true. So if the "term" was never transmitted out loud then the individual's self-image will be dominate. However if the person "heard" a term applied to them out loud then it will depend on their level of "suggestibility" which refers to their subconscious self-image...

Unconsciousness is when a person is unable to respond to people and other stimuli around him or her. Often, this is called a coma or being in a comatose state.

Other changes in awareness can occur without becoming unconscious. Medically, these are called "Altered Mental Status" or "Changed Mental Status." They include sudden confusion, disorientation, or stupor

self-fulfilling prophecy? That describes it from the end of the people who assume she's dumb, and you might be looking at it from the other end.
