I am not a Republican, but I am conservative. I do not belong to either party because I think that they all act like a bunch of children, I think that it is wrong that the politicians do what their party dictates rather than what is right for this country. I am not a huge fan of partisan politics. Most times lately I have voted for republicans because I have agreed with their stands on mariage, the war, abortion and things like that. I guess it boils down to the fact that I am not part of either party, because I can think for myself.

Hmmm.... sounds like a serious question, so I will give a serious answer.
It really boils down to the difference in the core philosophies of the Republicans vs. the Democrats; to put it simply, I am a Republican because, at their core, Repubs are Enlightenment Lockean, while Dems are Rossuean Romantics.
I'm not going to attempt to write a philosophical dissertation here (for one thing, I'm not fully qualified to give an in-depth comparison), but the basic difference is that Lockean are empirical and believe in the neutrality of human nature (a radical concept in the day, with it's emphasis on Original Sin and the corrupt nature of the human soul), while Romantics believe that human nature is inherently "good", and is only corrupted by the influence of outside forces, i. e. society (and if you are a Marxist, you the economics of society); it is from the Romantic movement that we got the phrases "child of nature" & "noble savage" (Romaticism was created in direct response to the "coldly rational" Enlightment movement, and it's alledeged denial of the human spirit; think Spock vs. McCoy on the original Star Trek... no, really, I'm not kidding.)
Please note that there is plenty of room for individual variation within both parties.
It may not seem like such important differences, but they are; it fundamentally alters how you approach such concerns as, for example, the issue of welfare reform.
Hope this helps you understand some of us red staters a little better... :)
Edit:
Politics is, by its very nature, PARTISAN; if there were no fundamental differences, we wouldn't need more than one political party. Hammering out differences between opposing opinions is what it is all about.
The important thing to remember is that, at the end of the day, we all need to be adult enough to "clock out" and sit down together at the local pub and toss back a few beers... Hell, if Tip & The Gipper could do it, anyone can. :)
Anyways; so, for all you whiners out there sniveling about "nasty partisan politics": you are part of the problem, not part of the solution, so STFU & STFD.
And with that "grumpy old man" moment out of the way... I am heading upstairs to take care of some chores. Later all...

Yes. Honestly I'm more Libertarian in my politics but I stay a registered Republican because I want my vote to have a little extra clout.
The Democrats are so far off the deep end...there's no turning back...it a condescending party that caters, frankly, to whiners, losers, and weirdos.
Sorry...but that's my thoughts on the subject.

I am a republican for many reasons. I believe in the life of the innocent (babies and children). I am pro-life, and know that abortion is always wrong. I have strong moral beliefs in my life, that make me a stronger, better person. I believe in justice- you kill someone, you deserve the death penalty....end of discussion. These are just SOME of the reasons that I am a republican.

the democrats are soft. under the Democrats the country got waxed by terrorist and they did nothing about it. under Clinton's rule we got Marine barrack blown up, we got the first world trade attack, and the USS Cole got a big hole in the side. under republicans two towers were taken down and so were two countries. the democrats want to kiss the terrorist and ask them to leave us alone. under the republicans they took one shot and they haven't been able to do anything again. because of the fear of an AMERICAN A$$ WHIPPING. where's Reagan when you need him. the world feared that crazy son of a biatch. and i was a registred dem. but i had to change that after i saw the way they play politics. democrats suck.
one more thing they want men to marry men and women to marry women. that should say it all.

I am a republican because I believe self motivation and individual accomplishments are the key to success, not hand outs from the government.

I've been a Democrat and a Republican, so I can't comment on what makes me one over the other. Right now, I feel like nothing!

Of course I am. Who wouldn't be for the party that defends America, freedom, and lowers taxes?
I am not lazy, and I am educated, that's why I'm a Republican.
Proof cons are more educated and earn more than libbies:

Simple. I am a republican because I don't feel the same way about things that most democrats or libertarians or whatever, do.
