Because we have a government hell bent on sucking us all dry. It's supposed to help support the schools and libraries and roads, and all of that. Uh huh. That's why the schools are in such dire straits, the libraries are on such tight budgets, and the roads stink. All schools should be tuition based - I have no kids in school, why should I be paying hundreds of dollars in school tax?

Do you use the government services such as trash collection, police protection and so forth only one time? The property taxes help pay for all those government services.

Yeah, and if you buy a car brand new, then trade it or sell it , the person who buys it used has to turn around and pay more tax on it-- CRAZY!! They just want all our money-- I agree with you- pay tax once and be done!!

you're referring to sales taxes.

property taxes are levied to support your local infrastructure, i.e. roads, parks, sewers, etc. those are not "one-time" projects.

generally, property taxes do not go up year after year UNLESS your county recorder's office is reassessing your property every year. this is unlikely. properties are reassessed at the time of transfer (sale).
