I love the Luxor, not too huge or expensive, but it's at the far end of the strip and it's no fun walking the strip in the summer.
The most beautiful rooms are at the Belliago but they are quite expensive. The Belliago also hosts the Cirque du Soleil show "O" which was the most incredible show I've ever seen (and I live in NYC).
If you're even a little bit of a Star Trek fan, take the monorail to the Hilton and do the Star Trek Experience. It's an IMAX ride-film with live action and a tour of the Enterprise bridge. There's a fun bar/restaurant at the end where you just might be assimulated by the Borg! The Hilton also has a Benihana restaurant which is excellent (and fun).
The live pirates show at Treasure Island is free and great but in my opinion, not really approiate for children (gyrating almost nude women). If you do go see it, don't stand to close to the "siren's ship". There's a blast of fire at the end of the show that can really sting if you're standing too close.
If you are traveling with kids, definitely have lunch at the Rainforest Cafe at the MGM Grand. Even if you're not traveling with kids, check it out...very cute.
One Vegas attraction that I thought was overrated was going to the top of the Eiffel Tower at the Paris. It costs $9 per person and most of what you see is construction just off the strip.
As for gambling, if your a low-roller (like me) head over to the Aladdin. $5 tables, even on the weekend, and the dealers are super nice with explaining games to you that you might not be a pro at. The Aladdin also has, hands down, the best buffett in Vegas.
Stay away from the Freemont Street Experience.
Enjoy your trip, Vegas rocks whether you gamble or not.

I live in Vegas and first of all i would suggest not coming on the weekend unless you are willing to pay more money for your room and pay more to play the table games. Hotels on the weekday range from 45-100 dollars on average unless your staying at the bellagio or the Wynn, there you will pay a lot more. And on the weekend they range from 65-200 bucks depending where you go, the table games also go up on the weekend, so on a weekday starting limits are 5 bucks and go up, but on a weekend most tables are 10 dollars or more. I would not stay in downtown because it is run down. Somewhere like the luxor is nice or treasure island or Mandalay bay, they are nice but you will have to pony up the dough to stay here. A nice place off the strip is Sam's town, they are a good deal, but make sure you make reservation for wherever you stay.As for the shows avenue q is my favorite show followed by lance Burton and Penn and teller. Also the show at the Wynn is great.

The Blue Man Group can wait, it's kinda boring. Don't see Rita Rudner unless you're over age 50. You've gotta see "O" or "Mystere". My favorite hotel is the Venetian, but it's a bit expensive. Mandalay Bay has a great pool. New York New York has a bunch of stuff to do in it, plus it's reasonably priced. Don't go on a Grand Canyon flight during the summer, it's way too turbulent.

Wynn, is the only place to stay now, its by far the newest, nicest, and best hotel in town. And with their summer promotion, the rates, especially during the week are very good, and very competitive.
As for shows. KA at MGM, is the top show in town right now. O at Bellagio, Mystere at TI, and Le Reve at Wynn are all excellent also. If you like music, Elton John, or Celion Dion at CP are good choices, they take turns, do depending on when you are in town, one or the other will probably be there.

The Imperial Palace for low budget and they offer the Legends in concert series with tribute/look-a-like artist.
Monty Carlo offers mid level comfort and the Lance Burton show.
The Rio is another mid level and the Penn & Teller show is a great Magic comedy/act.
The Bellagio offers first class accomidations and the O, which is a high flying/water cicrus act.
I like this link the best...

DEFINATELY don't go for the scams on the side of the street! This show on tv showed how easy it is for tourist to think it's real, like when ppl offer movie tickets or parking tickets/areas for a company .... be careful! Ask a tourist guide or go to a hotel and ask for where you can buy and get stuff like tickets and parking.
