2x + 7 = 13 - 2x
add 2x to both sides
2x + 2x + 7 = 13
subtract 7 from both sides
2x + 2x = 13 - 7
combine like terms
4x = 6
divide by 4 on both sides
x = 6/4
reduce the fraction
x = 3/2 = 1 1/2

You have to get the x's on one side, changing the signs of the numbers you bring across the =. Like this:

Original:
2x+7=13-2x

- Exchange the -2x with the +7 and change both signs when you bring them across the =:
2x+2x=13-7

- Solve:

4x=6
4x/4=6/4
x=1 2/4 (reduce the fraction)
x=1 1/2

You ask a lot of these questions - why do you not work through the answers and then you will be able to do them yourself!

With equations, you have to do the same thing to both sides of the equal sign and you need the x on one side and the numbers on the other:
2x+7=13-2x
First, let's get all the x's together, by adding 2x to both sides (you want to get rid of the -2x. You know that to make -2x zero, you need to add 2x to it):

2x+2x+7=13-2x+2x

4x+7=13

Then take 7 away from both sides:

4x+7-7=13-7
4x=6

You now need the x to be on its own. You do this by dividing both sides by 4:

4x=6
---.. ---
4.....4

(I used ... because you cannot do a row of spaces in Answer - it turns them all into one space!)

x=1.5

Now see if you can do it yourself!!!

1) 2x + 7 = 13 - 2x
2) 2x + 7 + 2x = 13 - 2x + 2x

that leaves you with

3) 4x + 7 = 13
4) 4x + 7 - 7 = 13 - 7

5) 4x = 6

6) x = 6/4

therefore:

x = 1.5

HOPE THAT HELPS!!!!

2x + 7 = 13 - 2x

Add 2x to both sides to get rid of the (- 2x) on the right.

4x + 7 = 13

Subtract 7 from both sides to get rid of the (+ 7) on the left.

4x = 6

Divide by 4 to get the "x" by itself on the left.

x = 6/4

Simplify 6/4.

6/4 = 3/2 or 1½

2x=6-2x (minus 7 from 13)
4x=6 (add positive 2 to both sides but not the 6*like terms only*)
x=1.5 (divide 6 by 4)
that should be the answer

x=3, 2x+7=13-2x, 2x3=6, 6+7= 13, 13-6=7

2x + 7 = 13 - 2x (add 2x to bothsides)
4x + 7 = 13 (subtract 7 from both sides)
4x = 6 (divide 4 by both sides)
x = 6/4 (now reduce)
x = 3/2

2006-07-31 12:44:24 · answer #10 · answered by Manny 6 · 0 0

2x+7=13-2x
add 2x both sides
2x+2x+7=13
minus 7 both sides
2x+2x=13-7
combine
4x=13-7
so (13-7 =6)
4x=6
divide by 4 both sides
x=1.5
