Sounds like you are losing vaccum. Check the vaccum line going to the heater/ac/floor/vent/defrost control switch from the engine compartment. Make sure it has vaccum all of the time when engine is running. If it doesn't, you need to look under the hood for a bad vaccum line or booster can. If it does, you have a bad damper control diaphram. Suck through the vaccum lines going to the dampers to find out which one fails to hold vaccum and that will be the one you need to replace. I suggest going to the junkyard for one if you need it. Good luck.

I agree with Jeff either you have a vacuum leak or a bad vacuum reservoir. Most vehicles will default to the defrost position in case of a problem so that at least your windows will be clear.
