I've been hit in the face, and kicked in the last 24hrs, yet the cut on my thumb is causing me the most pain and irritation. What pain stops you?

Oh yes, pain does stop you from functioning. When they're really in pain they get all light-headed, they can't stand up. I've known people to pass out and go unconscious. Sometimes they don't even remember what happened. You don't have to be hit in the head. You could be crushed by a car, or just have a severely broken arm, almost anything. Ask anyone who's been in a good car accident.

The reason that the cut in your thumb hurts most is because your fingers and thumbs are deeply innervated to allow touch sensation and manual dexterity.
Personally I've just started getting a little arthritic pain in the hip and that is a killer as far as I am concerned .... kills my mobility dead!

When we are hurt the adrenalin and endorphins kick in and sometimes we feel like we are super human. The worst type of pain seems to a persistent throbbing pain that really drains your strength like severe tooth ache or back pain.

The only physical pain I've had that was bad enough to stop me from functioning was hard labor. Anything else I can deal with.

Physical pain simply reminds you you're still alive. The pain that stops me is the emotional pain of a broken heart.

I have a very high tolerance of pain, but the one pain that stops me in my tracks is a migraine. The pain from a migraine is unbearable.

The pain of acute gastroenteritis, severe stomach cramps, stops me doing much. Second stage of labour - I was fairly static at that time. Sorry to hear you were bashed.
