Possibly because the Cold War is over so you dont need to "use" us like you use all people, even your own. And because we dont need you, because we are self sufficient in ourselves and gaining greater trade agreements with The Middle East, Asia, Africa and South America. And we are gaining mostly off America's bad reputation. So, if your patriotic stay where you are in your decaying culture of greed and selfishness won on the backs of others through military international intimidation off the backs of your health system, domestic benefits and overall interior mess you call a country. Why dont yous try isolation for a year and see just how poor a country you are without earning off the economic slavery of others.

Because he (or she) would be a bigger, more rounded person by going and experiencing himself other cultures, and for example, learning that Paris, France is the only Paris worth talking about even if there are 50 more Paris' in U.S. states. It is worth pointing out I think that the U.S. economy is not in as good a shape as some would wish. Europe is is a very important trading partner with the USA. A true story - Overheard - U.S. tourists discussing whether or not to board a tour bus in London (for your benefit; its in England) looking at the flags painted on the side of the bus indicating the languages of the commentary - he could not see a U.S. flag and stated that he would not get on it because he would not understand the language...........understand?

It is not a matter of being patriotic. I love America! I have no interest in traveling in Europe or anywhere else due to all the anti-American sentiment. Why should I have to fear for my life while on vacation?

All of the above answers about history and culture are true. You should also think about Condoleeza Rice, whom I am sure is one of your heroes, and how often she globetrots to make friends all over the world. America is at war, and many countries are angry at us for it. Supporting European economies through travel just may earn us a few friends.

Why not. People can still be patriotic to their own country and travel as well. You would if you had the chance and the money. It never hurts to expand your horizons.

Expanding your horizons does not mean being not patriotic. Loving America does not mean seeing only US. In the other side no one told you guys that going in vacation in Europe is more dangerous than LA, or NY.

Wanting to visit Europe has nothing to do with patriotism it has to do with the desire to travel and see new places.

Because that way he would know that there are other countries in the world, who could have great values and freedoms, wonderful places to see and peole who think with their own brains and don't get dictated by oil-greedy politicians. God forbid you ever see that kind of stuff!
