You know what - to me, only the person doing the deed knows in his/her heart if the deed is completely 'selfless' or not. We are outsiders and it would be hard for us to judge unless we were around when the deed was done and could not only see it, but the results that it carried. Perfect example - I think a person who commits to teaching students for 15-20 or more years has commited a selfless deed - but there is a degree of pride there because you are influencing someone's life. And it makes you feel good inside to do something for someone else. That's what love is all about. I think pride stands up tall when the person performing the deed has to exploit his/her action for the handshake, or pat on the back, or the verbal comment that may follow. Although - there are times when people commit a deed and don't expect anything, and then people make a big deal of it - and there are going to be people who will 'think' and 'say' the person was prideful- when in fact they were not. Great question!

Yes and No. I beleive that there are people somewhere in this world that do selfless deeds but I have never met one and do not think I ever will, well now that I think of it my great grandmother adopted a little black boy in Haiti when I was a child and her husband, my great-grand father, was so angry and she knew he was gonna be but she felt she had to do it, that it was her calling from the lord. It was not one of those adopt a child you see on T.V and my grandmother was not a rich lady by no means. She lived in a small mill house that she raised her kids in her whole life and worked for the mill until she retired. She actually went to Haiti herself and found a child that was like 9 and looked not a day older than 4 and she could not bring him back to America because her husband would have beat him and her( mind they had raised their children and had great grand children) so she had to leave him with his poor family back in Haiti; but she payed for him to join a school there where he got to stay and she paid for his education and sent him clothes and money to get the things he needed.. When he was almost done with school he asked her for a camera, he wanted to be a photographer, to make a living there in Haiti, and she sent him this camera and she sent him anything that would help him succeed . And against all the odds he had against him he became very successfull and married and had a child and I guess this is pretty much a selfless deed, I never seen any gain for her to do this. And I was gonna say no then changed to well surely there is someone who has done one somewhere, and then thought of Granny Childress. How sweet she was......always doing selfless deeds, building churches around the south, she was a preacher and she was a godly woman.Never heard her curse not one time in my 23 years that I knew her, she died 2 years ago , at a very old age and she is very missed, but was not scared or troubled that she was dying. She had lung problems from working in that mill and my grandfather smoking, but she was ready, she was happy..............

Sure, you can be proud that you are selfless and there-by do acts of selflessness in a proud manner. Ex) I help a friend out by giving him a ride to work every morning. I get nothing out of this but a feeling of pride that seems to occur naturally. I don't act on this feeling, just notice it.

There is no such thing as a selfless deed. Many people have altruism, but everyone, no matter who they are, will feel good about themselves when they have done a good deed.

if the selfless deed is performed if no-one else is watching, then one may experience pride as a result of the feel good factor. this would not be the case if a selfless deed is performed whne one knows others are watching

IT REALLY DEPENDS ON WHAT IS GOING ON...YOU MIGHT WANT TO LOOK AT IT THIS WAY...HE OR SHE HAS A LOT OF PRIDE...BUT WHEN IT INVOLVES HELPING A NEIGHBOR OR ANYONE NEEDING HELP...THE GOOD DEED IS A SELFLESS DEED AND PRIDE HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH IT...SO TAKE A NOTE AND THINK ABOUT IT...IT REALLY MAKES SENSE...

I don't believe so. Unless the Pride is a uncounted upon factor. For an example, there is an awful fire, a mans baby is in there he goes in there because of love when he comes out knowing that he and every one is safe, he is filled with pride.

I have heard that anything is possible, but I don't believe selfless deeds mixed with pride is. What would Sharky say??? When is he coming back? I miss him. Tell him to get his butt back here, please.;o)
