If you have the time, and not so much money, to invest, the best place to buy quality furniture is estate auctions. Look for the auction listings in your local newspaper. Many auctioneers post pictures of the contents of upcoming auctions on their websites. This can save you a lot of time and miles in checking out the suitibility of the items. I recently witnessed a two year old leather couch, in excellent condition, sell for $85.00 at an auction. One of the relatives of the deceased later said the owner paid well over $2,000.00 when it was new.
Good luck with your search.

I've found the best places for cheap furniture are yard sales and second-hand stores. I found a lovely pine table and benches at a consignment store for $40. The Salvation Army stores are always nice places to check out, usually more for clothes than furniture, though.
Auctions are also a lot of fun and can be very affordable if you are willing to be more flexible on what it is you want as opposed to having a very firm picture of what it is you want.
