Alan Turing set the first theoric model of what would become a computer in 1936, but it was John vonNeumann who set the basic architecture on which all modern computers are structured: an operating unit (arithmetic & logical unit), a control unit, input, output and data bus.

"Who invented the computer?" is not a question with a simple answer. The real answer is that many inventors contributed to the history of computers and that a computer is a complex piece of machinery made up of many parts, each of which can be considered a separate invention.

I agree with Gwen. Since Al Gore invented the internet it stands to reason that he also invented the computer!

Well, obviously it would have to have been al gore. He invented the internet so he would have had to invent the computer to go along with it.
