Record companies (big label) are only concerned about one thing when it comes to who gets signed or not; WILL THE PUBLIC BUY IT?
It's very sad to say, but that's why talentless artists and musicians make it big. Marketing! Paris used her phamily $ and her bombshell anorexic/bulimic figure to build a name for herself. If you act stupid and get into trouble (but not too much trouble) and somehow alert the media about it.... you're famous!
Example: Mapplethorpe. Great photographer... Yes. Extraordinary photographer.... No. At the time of Mapplethorpe's rise there were thousands of up and coming photographers, but add a little controversy by exhibiting questionable pornographic photographs in the most behind the times, conservative city in the United States and there you have it....FAME.
As Madonna in 1984 said when Penthouse released her college nude photos..... "There is no such thing as bad publicity"
As for the record companies, it's all about the bottom line. Can we make money off of it?
