The single peep indicates that your computer has finished the POST successfully and when the C:\> prompt appears that means you have logged on to DOS maybe cuz you forgot your start up disk in the floppy drive so just type restart and remove the floppy and the computer will load windows.. also check your boot sequence in order not to fall in this again!! You can do that when the computer first initialize and at the bottom of the screen it says press Del to enter to CMOS or the settings, or press F1.. cuz it's different from bios to bios
Good luck

The single beep sounds like your POST hardware test completed successfully. If you are getting a command prompt after that then you don't have a bootloader on your harddrive. You can try t o type 'dir' and see what you get. If not try running windows by typing 'win' or 'windows' if not then you need to reinstall you OS.

Single Beep indicates your Boot sequence is completed successfully and C:> indicates MS-DOS loaded.
Three beeps indicate memory error - as far as I know. So from one beep, nothing to worry.

If I remember correctly, Stuart is right, one beep is a memory error

There is a floppy in the floppy drive that boots Command Prompt. Or you operating system is MS-DOS or IBM-DOS.
