Straighten out a paperclip and poke it into the hole in the front of the drive. Pull the drawer out, and lubricate the gear wheels on the bottom of the tray with white lithium grease...use a Q-tip.

You just said it comes out, and you said it take several tries to make it come out? You have to contradicting statements. From reading what you said, there is nothing wrong with your DVD Drive. If there is a typo in there, then your DVD Drive is busted.

The switch is most likely gotten some dirt or something into it. Get one of those cans of air and blow everything about the tray and switch you can, otherwise, live with it until you can buy a new one.

I had this problem b4 on my comp. it took forever 2 open, and one day it never came out.... SO I got a new one.... that's the best solution and its not difficult to change it.

Check the power cable od the optical drive. Try unplugging it, and then plug it in.
